The Name

Why “Livingston”?

Gerry Livingston was a entrepreneur who moved his business in Tillsonburg in 1943. During the 1940s, built a new arena and became the main supporter of hockey, basketball, softball and baseball teams in Tillsonburg. He actively recruited for the Tillsonburg Livingston basketball team, the "Livies". The team went on to represent Canada at the 1952 Olympic Games in Helsinki, Finland, win the 1960 national title, and represented Canada for the second time at the pre-Olympic qualifiers for Rome. Livingston was also knighted by Pope John XXIII in 1962, received the Order of St. Gregory, and was later named a Knight of Malta.
